At a time when reports of violence against teachers are pouring in from across the state, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) is undertaking a silent drive to identify teachers who don’t have the necessary educational qualifications and is also finding out anomalies in attendance as well as
service extensions due to ‘favouritism’ by the previous Left Front regime.
TMCP would now forward ‘doubtful’ cases to the higher education council, education department and even to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
“In many cases, we have seen that professors who are guides to Ph.D scholars themselves do not have a PhD Many have been given extension after retirement without proper reason. We are identifying such cases and are demanding an educational audit,” TMCP president Shankudeb Panda told HT.
“During the Left Front tenure, colleges and universities were politicised, whose effects are still being felt. We have seen that professors and employees owing allegiance to the CPI(M) have been creating trouble on campus. We are demanding an investigation into such activities,” Panda added.
TMCP sources said that many professors posted in the districts spend most of their time in Kolkata.
Many have even submitted false educational qualifications to the education department.
Many professors who should have retired long back have been given repeated extensions without proper reasons and many do not take classes regularly.
TMCP units in all colleges and universities have been instructed to identify such dubious people.
TMCP leaders have alleged that many professors and employees owing allegiance to the CPI(M) are conducting antigovernment and anti-Trinamool propaganda in classrooms and inciting students to resort to violence.
All party units across the state have been asked to provide proof and documents on such people, which in turn would be handed over to the education department and to the chief minister.
The TMCP wants such dubious people to be removed from their post and eligible ones put in their place.
