India is poised to become the largest market for two-wheelers next year for Japanese auto major Honda Motor Corp, a senior official told HT on Friday.

The company is also scouting for a location to set up its fourth factory in India that will take its cumulative production capacity to nearly 6 million units per annum.

"With the kind of growth we have witnessed in the last two years, India should overtake Indonesia and become the largest market for our two-wheelers next year," said YS Guleria, vice-president, sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India.

"The onset of the festival season should see us posting good growth. Hopefully, we may even double our tally over last year."

Barely three months after commissioning its third factory in the country that will take its production capacity to 4.6 million units by March next year, Honda is already scouting for land for a fourth factory.

The coastal state of Gujarat, which is fast emerging as the new hub for automobiles, is believed to be the front runner.

Honda's sales have grown by 21% during the period helping it overtake Bajaj Auto as the second largest two wheeler manufacturer in the country.
