Three members of the family of a Delhi-based businessman allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in the early hours on Saturay inside their car, which was found on NH-24.
A fourth family member is believed to be in a critical condition. He is admitted at a private
hospital in Ghaziabad.
After consuming poison, the family had called up their relatives in Delhi. However, they could be traced only around 4am at Ghaziabad inside their car on NH-24, near Dasna.
One of the victims has been identified as Alok Verma.
His younger brother, Ashutosh Verma, said that the reason behind the suicide could be the hefty dues that his brother was unable to pay.
"He called me up at 4.30 pm on Friday and asked me to give a guarantee on account of his pending payment. After returning from work, I called him up at 10 pm but he told me not to come as it was too late," Ashutosh said.
"Then I got his call at around 1.28 am and he told me that he had quit due to pressure and the entire family had consumed poison. They were at some hotel when he called me. Then I called my other relatives and the police for help in tracing their car," Ashutosh added.
Alok Verma, his wife Amrita and two sons, Robin and Nikhil, were found inside their Hyundai-Accent car, which was traced by the Ghaziabad police, near Dasna on NH-24 at around 4 am on Saturday.
"All the victims were rushed to hospital but three of them were declared dead on arrival. Nikhil is the only survivor and is stated to be in a critical condition. They consumed poison near a hotel at Babugrah area and then drove towards Delhi over NH-24 before calling family members and informing them that they had consumed poison," circle officer Rajesh Kumar Pandey said.
The doctors at the hospital said that 26-year-old Nikhil has been put on life support system.
The family hails from Uttam Nagar area of Delhi.
