Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh on Monday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to clarify the Congress-led UPA government's stand on Pakistan which, he claimed, had violated ceasefire more over 100 times in the recent past and yet the government was going soft on
Interacting with mediapersons here, the BJP chief said it was because of the diplomatic failure of the UPA government that the world today sees India as a soft state.
"The PM should clarify why he was keen to meet the Pakistani counterpart at the forthcoming world summit at New York, despite the fact that there was no conducive environment for such talks," he said.
"India should build pressure against Pakistan diplomatically on the international platforms and build opinion against Pak misdeeds," he said.
Replying to a question whether the NDA, if voted to power, would bring resolution in the Parliament to apologize for Godhra mayhem, the way UPA government had done in case of 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Singh bluntly said no, for, he held, the two massacres could not be compared. "There was a clear-cut provocation for the 1984 riots while nothing of sort was there in case of Godhra. Nonetheless, it was very unfortunate and the BJP had condemned it then and would always condemn it," he said.
Terming the Congress the biggest communal party, Singh said that the so-called secular party which had ruled the country for over 50 years had made no effort to ensure communal harmony and always ruled with ``divide and rule policy''.
Singh also held Uttar Pradesh government responsible for the recent riots in Muzzafarnagar and said that whenever the Samajwadi Party, or Bahujan Samaj Party or Congress, the so-called secular parties, had been in the power in UP or any other state, there had been communal riots.
Rupee on ventilator, $ on escalator'
Lambasting UPA government, Singh said that it had pushed the country in economic and diplomatic crises. "The UPA government has virtually pushed the country in the intensive care unit (ICU) as the rupee is on the ventilator, the dollar on the escalator while the unemployed youth is on the highway," he said and added that fiscal deficits were out of control.
