A day after MP Anurag Thakur-led Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) passed a resolution criticising the state government for taking action against it, the ruling Congress hit back at the cricket body stating that the resolution was nothing more than an attempt by Thakur to hide his
In a press release issued here, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), spokesperson, Naresh Chauhan condemned HPCA's move, in which it criticised the state government stating that Thakur, by indulging in such acts, was only trying to remain in limelight to build his political career.
“The resolution passed by HPCA in which they have criticised the Congress government, shows the utter frustration of Anurag Thakur as he has been exposed in the investigation conducted by the state vigilance department,” Chauhan said.
He said: “If the HPCA hasn't done anything wrong, then why is Thakur worried so much and why is he criticising the government and the chief minister?”
“He is bringing commercialisation to cricket, while former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was commercialising politics,” Chauhan charged.
Chauhan further said that by conducting investigations into the irregularities committed by the HPCA, the state government was not indulging in any kind of vendetta politics, but was only trying to bring out the truth.
“The people want to know the truth behind the issue. At first they registered the cricket body as a society in Kanpur, but later shifted it to Chandigarh,” Chauhan said.
“It is also unclear whether it is a company or a society on whose name the land was allotted for construction of the stadium in Dharamshala,” Chauhan said, adding that the change in land use was done without taking the permission of the cabinet.
He alleged that the HPCA constructed a high-end hotel at the allotted land by flouting rules and regulations.
Accusing the HPCA of violating norms, Chauhan said the government has ordered an inquiry into HPCA's affairs after taking all the facts into consideration.
Asserting that the state government was not against any sport and was committed to promotion of cricket and other games equally, Chauhan said that any irregularity on the name of promotion of games will not be tolerated.
