A brother-sister duo, both children of an accountant general office employee, sustained serious injuries when a parcel they had received through courier service blew up as they unwrapped it at their home in Kydganj locality in Allahabad on Saturday.

Both the injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Rambagh for treatment.

On receiving information about the incident, top police and bomb disposal squad officials reached the spot along with a dog squad and a forensic field unit.

As per reports Abhishek, a resident of Kydganj received a call from a private courier company telling him that a parcel had come in his name. He rushed to the courier's firm and collected it. After reaching home he, along with his elder sister Jaya, unwrapped the parcel.

Police said the two, who were alone in the house at the time, found an emergency light inside the parcel. As soon as Abhishek pressed the button on the emergency light, a huge blast took place in which both the brother and sister sustained serious injuries.

Hearing the blast and screams of Abhishek and Jaya, locals rushed to the spot and found the duo lying in a poll of blood. They were then taken to hospital.

"We have come to know that the parcel was sent from Ashok Movers and Packers Company in Varanasi and are trying to get some clue about the parcel sender with the help of anti-terrorist squad (ATS). A team of cops has also been sent to Varanasi on the address that was mentioned on the parcel," SP (crime) AK Pandey told Hindustan Times.
