Even four days after the 12-year-old Vidhu Jain was burnt alive by unidentified persons, the clueless Sangrur police were still groping in dark.
Their idea to circulate the contact numbers of senior police officials in public for a lead has fallen flat, as non of the officials have
received a single call in this connection so far.
The mobile numbers of Sangrur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu (95929-00051) and superintendent of police (SP) Paramjit Singh Goraya (80545-45003), though found spaces in newspapers on Thursday, but earned little.
The police on Thursday announced a cash prize of `2.5 lakh to the person who would help them identifying the accused; but even this effort of the police failed to fetch any result.
SSP Sidhu said though there was no breakthrough in the case so far, but the police were carrying out extensive investigations and questioning the suspects. "Various teams of police have been working on different theories and every lead in the case is being investigated minutely to solve it as the earliest", the SSP added.
"The teams were questioning different persons in detail. We have so far questioned servants working at Vidhu's father shop, his classmates and many local residents," said Sidhu.
Meanwhile, simmering tension and volatile situation prevailed in the area for the past three days with residents taking out massive protests and raising slogans.
Moreover, top cops of neighbouring districts have also been camping in the town since the murder, but nothing concrete came to their notice as well.
However, heavy security was deployed across the town to avoid any untoward incident.
Sources with the police said the investigators were also examining the recordings of closed circuit cameras installed at different locations at Multani Chowk, Truk Union, College Road, Gurdwara Sahib, Sirhindi Gate and Patiala and Jarg bypasses to gather clues.
Sources further said in many recordings the boy could be seen riding on his bicycle on his way to hand over lunch box to his younger brother through Multani Chowk, but beyond Multani Chowk none of his videos appeared.
Meanwhile, forensic experts have also carried out detailed investigations into the incident, and have collected samples of mud from the spot, which was cordoned off by the police. They also conducted dummy test of the incident to collect details about how and in how much time the crime would have been executed.
