Ram Kapoor is a busy man, juggling films and advertisements with his serial, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (BALH). In this interview, he talks about his TV future, acting assignments and wanting to spend more time with his kids.
What is the response for the recent time leap in
I haven’t had time to tweet or check social media since I’m busy shooting for the biggest film of my life — Humshakals. I’ve finished one schedule in London, returned to Mumbai, and, in a few days, will wrap up a chunk of BALH, only to rush back.Once BALH ends, will you do another TV show?
Not really. Actually, I was supposed to do it only for a year, just like Ekta and I had decided. I had many films in hand and even turned her down initially. But the audiences liked it so much that I continued. It’s getting harder with every passing year to juggle it with films. I’m committed to BALH and I’d rather have it end than I leave it. I’ll never turn my back on TV, but post BALH, I won’t do more TV — for a while at least.Do you credit TV or films for your success?
Ram Kapoor today is a household name due to TV. It has given me everything, no doubt. Through films, I reached urban audiences, while my TV fans are from the interiors.
What are the films you are working on currently?
I have a triple role in Sajid Khan’s Humshakals. His films are mad and so are all the roles that I’m playing in it — including a villain. I also have Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Santa Banta, and Nagesh Kukunoor’s Lakshmi. On TV, one is stuck with the same kind of roles for years, but films have opened up things in a big way.
What did you think of your wife Gautami's return to TV?
I'm happy for her as she was eager to return to acting. There were a few roles that had worked out, but I wanted her to be back with a bang, so I stopped her from taking those up. She is here finally, and I’m super-thrilled for her.
Recently, Gautami said she felt like a single parent, referring to your long working hours. What do you think about that?
It’s true. But that was the case in my childhood as well. My father was never around and my mother used to worry that the kids won’t grow up to be connected to him. Today, my father is my best friend. I don’t get to see my kids as much as I want, but right
now it’s my time to focus on work and secure their future. Luckily, my wife understands and supports me completely.
