The police also issued the notice against Asaram's wife Lakshmi and daughter Bharti, who have also been named in the FIR for aiding in the crime."We have started the probe in the case. The notice has been issued to ensure that those named in the FIR are not able to escape from the police," a police official from Surat said.
The police have also sought help of medical and forensic experts as the alleged case had taken place almost a decade ago.
Controversial self-styled godman Asaram is at present lodged in the Jodhpur central jail under charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his city ashram.
Asaram is in jail since September 1. Last week, the Rajasthan high court had rejected his bail plea for his allegedly crime.
A Jodhpur court has extended Asaram and his attendant Shiva's custody till October 11. Shilpi, another aide of the godman, has been sent to eight-day judicial custody.
Asaram runs a multi-million spiritual empire with more than 400 ashrams spread across India, US, UK and African countries. He has a huge following base in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Delhi.
