"The team recovered 6-kg heroin from the accused and registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at the SSOC police station in Amritsar," he added.
Preliminary questioning revealed that the accused were in touch with a Pakistan-based smuggler, code-named 'Bhatti', who had used people crossing the Indo-Pak border to deliver the consignment to Gurdev. Gurdev deputed Tarsem to collect the consignment. The two were on the way to move it further, when they were intercepted.
The AIG said that the arrested persons would be produced in court, where police remand would be sought for further questioning.
"We are committed to exposing such rackets by exposing the supplier at the Pakistan-end, the Pakistani and Indian couriers, the Indian smuggler, and the intended recipient of the contraband," the AIG claimed.
