The injured jawan was immediately rushed to the sub-district hospital for treatment. A manhunt has been launched to nab the militants.
Preliminary reports suggest that the CRPF personnel deployed between Tral's bus stand and the police station were maintaining a wide gap during the patrol. Several were also resting on the roadside. This was the reason that other CRPF personnel could not come to the rescue of their colleague.
"Unidentified gunmen overpowered a CRPF jawan and decamped with his rifle. The militants fired shots in the air and disappeared from the scene," said CRPF spokesperson Kishore Prasad.
There is a sudden spurt in militant acts to snatch rifles from security forces. In May, militants decamped with two AK-47 rifles from two soldiers in the Buchoo area of Tral. South Kashmir's Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam, too, have witnessed similar militant attacks where they managed to flee with rifles in the past.
