The police sources said the Pakistan Rangers also resorted to unprovoked firing on Mangu Chak and Khawada posts of the Border Security Force (BSF) on the international border in Samba district.
"The firing started early on Wednesday morning. BSF troopers have retaliated in a calibrated manner to the firing,” a senior police officer said, adding intermittent exchange of fire is still continuing in these places. No casualty or damage has been reported on the Indian side.
The Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire thrice on Tuesday at Hamirpur area in Poonch’s Mendhar sector, using small arms, automatics and mortars. Lance naik Muhammad Feroze Khan, belonging to Hyderabad, was killed when he was hit by a mortar splinter in Hamirpur area on Tuesday. On Monday, a BSF jawan was injured in another incident of ceasefire violation.
More than 110 incidents of ceasefire violation have been reported in Jammu region this year till now. Last year, 96 such incidents were reported in Jammu division.
The army guards the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir while the BSF is deployed on the international border between India and Pakistan.
