Akshay Kumar (last seen in Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai), Shiv Pandit (last seen in Shaitan, 2013), Ronit Roy (last seen in Shootout at Wadala), Aditi Rao Hydari (last seen in Murder 3) and Mithun Chakraborty (last seen in Enemmy) and Johnny
Lever (last seen in Enemmy)Storyline:
A tough cop’s (Ronit Roy) daughter (or is it sister?) falls for the tougher hero’s (Akshay Kumar) brother. The ‘Boss’s’ brother gets beaten up; Boss gets angry. Everything else goes along exactly as you expect it to.
Anthony D’Souza (last directed Blue; 2009)
Also starring Akshay Kumar, it was touted as the most expensive Indian film ever produced (at that time). However, it fared badly at the box office. Even Kylie Minogue’s random appearance in one song could not save this boat from sinking.
Farhad-Sajid (adapted story), Siby K. Thomas and Udaykrishnan (original story of Pokkiri Raja)
The duo has been credited as the dialogue writers for Chennai Express, Policegiri, Chashme Baddoor and Golmaal 3 (2010) in the past. They have also written the screenplay for Housefull 2 (2012) and the major dud, Himmatwala.
The popular track ‘Appadi podu’ has been adapted sloppily to create ‘Hum na tode’. The hit track ‘Har kisi ko nahi milta’ from Janbaaz (1986) has been remade for the film too.
Following the recent trend, the song ‘Party all night’ got into trouble over some ‘objectionable’ lyrics. A certain similar-sounding word (starting with ‘g’) was changed to ‘Kaan’ to create some unnecessary buzz.
Sonakshi Sinha — Akshay Kumar’s rumoured lucky mascot — is seen shaking a leg in the song, ‘Party all night’. The film otherwise has generated little excitement; no surprises here. However, the makers made sure everyone noticed Aditi Rao Hydari in… wait for it… a bikini! Now, this was shocking.
What do we know and what have we learnt? Clearly, Boss is yet another mindless flick that expects to work purely on star value. Because it does so, it gives those who despise this genre no reason to give it another shot. So, if you yearn for sad humour and clichéd action sequences, you know where to head.
