“Firing at Nikowal outpost in the RS Pura sector stopped at about 4 am Friday morning,” said a BSF official. The firing, however, started again at 6.30 pm and was still on at the time of going to press. It’s the same area where five people — three children and two women — were injured in cross-border firing on Thursday.
BSF troops guarding the borderline took positions and retaliated strongly, resulting in exchanges, said officials.
In Samba, firing continued till late Thursday night. BSF sources said Pakistan commanders had refused to hold a flag meeting to defuse the tension.
BSF officials said more firing was expected along the border in the future, especially till Diwali.
