Sat Singh , Hindustan Times
Rohtak, October 19, 2013
Five days after Hindustan Times reported the closure of 103.5 FM channel at All-India Radio here, the authorities have decided to restart it from October 21. “Taking cognisance of a news report published in Hindustan Times on October 13, the issue (closure of the FM channel) was taken up with the AIR director general, New Delhi,” Zile Singh Jakhar, in-charge of the Rohtak and Hisar stations, told the media here on Friday.

The AIR, Rohtak, had discontinued the airing of daily FM programmes. “Paucity of funds was the reason behind suspending the programmes but now the director general, New Delhi, has sanctioned the funds and a part of it has been allocated to the Rohtak station,” Jakhar, who is based in Hisar, said.

Corroborating the version of an official published in the news report “‘Internal politics’ at AIR Rohtak sending wrong signals”, he said the station had demanded `1 crore but the higher-ups had sanctioned `45 lakh, resulting in discontinuing the shows.

On the timings of the programmes to be aired from October 21, the in-charge said the morning schedule of 10am to 11pm would remain as it was, but the evening schedule had been pushed by two hours. “Now, the one-hour evening programme will start from 5pm against the earlier schedule of 3pm to 4pm. The change is in view of the clash with the timings of popular programme ‘Sakhi Saheli’ that is aired from another station. Now, listeners can enjoy both ‘Sakhi Saheli’ from 3pm to 4pm and the FM programme from 5pm to 6pm,” he said.

“The aim of the AIR-Rohtak is to promote Haryanvi culture and disseminate information useful to public,” Jakhar said.

TO FOCUS ON SPORTS, LIVE PROGRAMMES

On the demand for sports and live programmes, Jakhar said the station aired such programmes but would give importance to sports-related programmes, and live and youth shows. “The authorities do not rule out anything as the station is for the people and of the people,” he added.

AIR-Rohtak programme executive Ransingh Kajale, and announcers Archana Mishra and Bhimsen were present at the press meet.
