The local police claim to have recovered a two-year-old boy who was kidnapped from EWS Colony on October 8, after the arrest of four persons, including two women.
According to police, the accused are members of a human-trafficking gang and wanted to sell the toddler, Sameer, for Rs. 1.5 lakh.

Rani, a resident of Dhatt village in Dakha, was arrested following a tip-off from Transport Nagar.

During interrogation, she confessed her crime and following information provided by her, the police raided a house in Jalandhar and recovered Sameer.

The police claimed that Rani confessed that after kidnapping the child, she took him to Jalandhar and handed him over to other gang members.

The other arrested accused are Rani's husband Daljit Singh alias Gagan, Kuldeep Kaur alias Pardhangi and her husband Jagir Singh of Mithu Basti of Jalandhar.

The kingpin of the gang, Laxmi, and another woman Taran of Jalandhar are absconding.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) (crime) Paramjit Singh Pannu claimed that Rani used to kidnap children following instructions of Laxmi. She used to handover the children to Laxmi after moving them to several places through Kuldeep Kaur.

The ADCP claimed that the accused had admitted to have kidnapped several children.

A team comprising assistant commissioner of police (ACP) crime Gurbans Singh Bains and CIA incharge inspector Ashok Kumar has been formed for further investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that Rani was captured kidnapping Sameer in a CCTV installed at Kalra Nursing Home at Tajpur Road.

A case was registered at Division Number 7 police station against unidentified accused in this context.
