Pardeep Kumar alias Monu, a resident of Bhim Nagar and accused of sodomising and killing two boys in his neighbourhood, was on Thursday produced in the court of chief judicial magistrate Poonam Bansal in connection with the murder of Sumit, 13, and was remanded in two-day police
His six-day police remand in the murder case of Aman, 12, had ended on Thursday.
Monu was arrested on October 13 in connection with Aman's murder. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to having murdered Sumit as well and burying him near his house.
On Wednesday evening, Monu had led police to the spot and helped them dig the body that had been decomposed badly.
Sumit had reportedly gone missing on June 9. His parents identified his body from the T-shirt he was wearing. Dr Jaswinder, forensic expert at the civil hospital, said the boy's DNA had been preserved in case police needed it during investigation.
The court allowed police to take Monu's hair samples, foot mould and fingerprints to compare them with the ones collected by them earlier from the area of crime.
Sukhwinder Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) (detective), said Monu was a hard nut to crack. “He kept misleading the police but ultimately confessed to two murders. We will question him further to find out if he had targeted more children,” the DSP said.
The DSP said another case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered against the accused, following the recovery of the second body.
Earlier, Aman's body was recovered from a field in Purhiran area on October 13.
