These new posters with the printer and AAP’s name and address as publishers on them has a simple design. They have the AAP symbol ‘broom’ and Kejriwal’s face with two lines: ‘Is baar chalegi jhaadu’ (The magic will work this time) and ‘Is baar imaandar party ko vote dein’ (Vote for an honest party this time).
Taking a head start, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party had started using publicity posters on three-wheelers at least six months ago. But the low-cost campaign was hit in the last week of September when, ahead of the model code of conduct, the Delhi election authorities asked the party to put the names of the printer and the publisher on the posters.
Following in the AAP’s steps, even the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had started using the rear of auto-rickshaws for political posters.
“We have printed about 10,000 such posters in the first lot this time. Once these are exhausted, we will print more,” said Karan Singh, who is supervising the AAP’s auto-rickshaw campaign.
Auto-rickshaw driver Sanjay Chawla, an AAP supporter and volunteer, said: “We had a meeting of about 20 auto-rickshaw drivers from different parts of Delhi. Each one of them has taken responsibility for the campaign in their respective areas. Each one will personally ensure 150-200 posters are put up on auto-rickshaws.”
The drivers were told to paste posters on vehicles of trusted people. “This step is being taken because every single poster is added to the overall cost of the party’s election expenditure. We cannot afford to waste anything,” Chawla said.
