A light intensity earthquake of 4.9 magnitude rattled parts of North India at 8:23 pm on Wednesday. The epicenter of the quake was Hoshiarpur region in Punjab at 31.4°N and 76.1°E, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated. The tremors which lasted for few seconds were felt across the region from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh to eastern and southern parts of Pakistan. The Met department termed the earthquake of slight intensity, which originated around 10 km below the surface.  Soon after the light intensity quake struck, people were seen sharing their experiences on social media.


The quake shook the buildings in the tricity for a few seconds, forcing many in their offices and residences to come out in open spaces. Authorities said, no loss of life and property had been reported.
