“We could not gather any details to establish the identities of Ali and Johar, who died during the June 2004 encounter. We have sent a LR to Pakistan to verify claims that the duo had belonged to that country or had links there, but there has been no response,” said a CBI officer. The agency has already announced a cash reward of `5 lakh for leads and sent a team to J&K, but to no avail.
According to a witness in the case, inspector Bharatkumar Patel, Amjad had identified himself as a resident of Pakistan’s Sargodha. According to others, Ali had stayed in Mumbai with Javed Shaikh, who died in the same encounter.
