The three most popular of the party’s leaders will address rallies separately in the next two weeks. While the younger Gandhi will address a rally at Dakshinpuri in south Delhi on Sunday, Sonia will address a gathering at Shastri Park in east Delhi on November 24. The Prime Minister will go to the Sikh- and Punjabi-dominated Tilak Nagar in west Delhi on November 27.
“During Rahulji’s rally in Mongolpuri, we had promised similar rallies of our top leaders. Apart from these three big rallies, our chief minister will go to various constituencies to campaign for our candidates,” Delhi’s urban development minister Arvinder Singh said.
About 8,000 people were at Rahul’s rally in Mongolpuri on October 27. Singh said the number of people coming to the next three rallies would go up. “Our government has developed the city in a big way, and the public mood is with the Congress. You will see a large number of people coming to the rallies,” Singh said. Almost 25,000 people are expected to come to Rahul’s rally on Sunday, he added.
A Congress leader said the location for the three rallies had been carefully chosen, and areas where the Congress has a good support base have been picked for the leaders to address crowds.
“Mongolpuri is a huge resettlement area and a traditional Congress stronghold. The party had also given out ownership certificates to people living in these areas. That’s why it was a natural choice. There are a large number of unauthorised colonies in and around Ambedkar Nagar and Shastri Park, which have been regularised recently. Tilak Nagar is a Sikh-dominated area and the Prime Minister will go there,” the leader said.
