Modi replies to EC, denies violating model code
BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday denied violating the model code of conduct and said he did not refer to the Congress election symbol in his barb khooni panja (bloodied hand).
In his reply to a notice issued by the Election Commission, Modi said his attack was neither personal in nature nor derogatory and did not promote hatred, as alleged by the Congress in its complaint.
Modi is believed to have said he did not make any personal attack on his opponents and his remarks were critical of the policies of the Congress, which is allowed in the model code of conduct.
On the specific Congress allegation that by making the khooni panja reference, he was talking about the party’s election symbol, Modi denied the charge. He said the reference to paw was generic.
The EC had issued a notice to Modi last week following a complaint filed by the Congress, saying prima facie the BJP leader had violated the model code of conduct.
