The sixth edition of the children’s literature festival, Bookaroo, is back in town. In association with Hindustan Times, the event will see 105 speakers from 14 countries making it an enjoyable experience for kids. In attendance among other renowned writers, storytellers, poets and illustrators
are German author Cornelia Funke, English writer and illustrator Sally Gardner and Pakistani-Canadian writer Musharraf Ali Farooqi.
With 116 sessions in all, youngsters can engage in chats with their favourite authors, take part in educational workshops, take a treat at storytelling sessions or indulge in art and craft.
Speaking of her Bookaroo experience, Indian poet and novelist Sampurna Chattarji says, “I have a very special relationship with Bookaroo, having been lucky enough to be invited to more than one edition of this special kid-lit fest. Bookaroo is where I get to meet the young readers of my books; reunite with family, and old school friends who, I discover to my delight, have been buying my books for their kids. It feels like a picnic, and yet, without knowing it, it’s work, the best kind!”.
Resonating Sampurna’s enthusiasm, British children’s writer Penny Dolan adds, “I have been honoured to take part in Bookaroo before. Not only did I have a wonderful time myself during the excitement and joy of the festival weekend, I was also able to see the pleasure on so many young people’s faces. I was also able to witness the fine work of the Bookaroo team in bringing authors, storytellers, puppeteers and other artists together. Bookaroo is a festival to be proud about”.
