Film-makers have used this tactic to promote their movies in the past too, with Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor also singing songs in their respective films, Ghulam (1998) and Barfi! (2012). However, that’s not the case with Farhan’s latest number. “It is not a specially added song, but it will go with the flow of the story and it will be part of the film,” adds the source.
In the past, Farhan’s songs such as ‘Pichle saat dinon mein’ and ‘Socha hai’ (from Rock On!!) were big hits among young listeners. “The makers knew of Farhan’s singing prowess. And for this song they wanted a voice that could create a connect with the youth. After they saw the massive response from the youngsters at a college where Farhan was performing, they were sure that he would be the perfect choice,” adds the source.
Alpana Mishra, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures, confirms this news, saying, “Witnessing one of Farhan’s concerts at IIT Delhi recently, (we realised that) the following that he has amongst the youth is unparalleled. He plays a musician in the film (Shaadi Ke Side Effects) and it mirrors his life at the moment, where he is travelling to different colleges and fests, and singing and performing with his band.”
