On Monday, Bansilal Joshi, 55, surrendered before the Gamdevi police, claiming he was driving the Aston Martin at the time of the incident. The police, however, have not arrested Joshi, as they are ‘in the process of checking the credibility of Joshi’s claims’.
“We are checking Joshi’s mobile tower locations which tell us if Joshi was at the spot. Also, we are going through CCTV footage,” said a senior officer requesting anonymity. The officer said if Joshi’s claims do not match the findings during the investigation, the Gamdevi police will carry out a fresh probe in the matter.
The accident had occurred on the northbound stretch of Peddar Road in south Mumbai around 1.30am.
The Gamdevi police have registered a case of rash driving and causing hurt and endangering life and personal safety of others under sections of the Indian Penal Code.
