Even as the office of senior superintendent of police (SSP), sub-divisional magistrate and traffic police is located here, the presence of heavy vehicles (which are banned from 8 am to 8 pm on the road) raises a question mark on the working of the traffic police.
The encroachments made by shopkeepers and haphazard parking near the SSP's office adds insult to the injury.
The traffic police had deputed more than three dozen constables on various check posts but hundreds of vehicles are seen passing through the road, courtesy their alleged nexus with traffic constables.
The situation is no different on other roads where shopkeepers have extended their shops outwards through various means. They display their goods on tables outside their shops thus occupying more than 10-15 feet space on both sides.
When contacted, the local municipal council passed the buck on traffic police. The civic body officials said they had proposed one-way traffic on city roads and asked the traffic police for better enforcement to prevent congestion.
Traffic police in-charge TP Singh refused to comment on the issue.
