Having just been evicted from the reality show, Bigg Boss, VJ Andy was still getting his bearings when he spoke to us. However, what came to him as the biggest shock when he stepped out was news of the Supreme Court ruling on section 377, as per which, gay sex has been again made a criminal
offence. Here, Andy talks to us about his views on this development and the roller-coaster ride that his stay in the house has been. What do you think of the Supreme Court ruling on section 377?
Everyone has the right to live. One should live and let live, love and let love; that's how I am. No matter who you are, you deserve love. It's a natural part of life. And everyone should be allowed to be the way they want to be. India's a democracy, and there should be place for everyone. Your stay on Bigg Boss has created a certain perception about your sexuality…
Sexuality is a personal choice and who you sleep with doesn't define you. I don't believe in boxes and I don't believe in ticking one. Everyone has a choice. In one episode, you spoke openly about Gauhar's lingerie (and even showed it on camera). What were you thinking?
I've known Gauhar
for seven years. I have also been a stylist for films and I have done fittings for models too, so for me, that kind of talk (about a woman's contours and measurements) is normal. There was no malice. It was a joke, which got taken to another level. When I realised it wasn't culturally accepted, I stepped back. But I didn't expect Kushal's reaction (he grabbed Andy by the neck), which I felt was uncalled for. Had Gauhar questioned me, I'd have taken her criticism lying down. Kushal not only abused me, but also threatened to kill me. Are you thinking of filing a case against Kushal for his violent behaviour?
No. What happened in the house should be left there and everyone should just move ahead in life.Would you say you are now good friends with Gauhar, or did you patch up only for the show?
Interestingly, when Kushal left, she and I became close again. Our friendship has completed a full circle from where we started in the beginning. When I have a fight with someone, I never keep things in my heart and say what I want to and then let it go. Is Sangram a friend for life?
He's been a great support in the house and I could share things with him. But there have also been times when he hasn't been there for me. Salman supported you a lot in the house.
Yes, he's been a guardian angel to me. I doubted myself when people said bad things about me, and Salman helped me see the truth. His talks on Saturdays were the highlights; they boosted my morale. His support allowed me to get this far. He reminded me of my brother. I can't thank him enough. Will you go back to being a VJ or try working in films?
There are a lot of things coming my way. I have been acting and choreographing in London for a very long time. There's work being offered in films and TV and, once I sign up, I will tell you more. For me, Bigg Boss was about having fun. I didn't set agendas when I entered the show.
