Asinine plot, unfunny jokes and most of the actors hamming it up – that’s the critics’ verdict on Mr Joe B Carvalho. Arshad Warsi is the only saving grace in this eminently forgettable film.

Samir Tewari's directorial debut Mr Joe B Cravalho opened this Friday. The film stars Arshad Warsi, Soha Ali Khan, Javed Jaffrey and Vijay Raaz.

While Arshad Warsi and Vijay Raaz perform to their own arc, a weak script fails to complement their effort.

Film critic Shubhra Gupta (Indian Express) writes, "Arshad is dumped into a plot that that is so asinine that it leaves one speechless. What can you say when you are faced with characters who make no sense, and speak only nonsense?"

Film analyst Saibal Chatterjee (NDTV) agrees, " Warsi certainly deserves better… Mr Joe B Carvalho, directed by first-timer Samir Tewari, is a comedy of terrors in which anything goes. It is utterly unfunny and riddled with mindless gags that drag beyond acceptable limits.”

Neither the script nor dialogues qualify this one for a decent comedy. Rohit Vats writes for IBN, "The tempo needs to go up otherwise it will become a collage of average jokes."

Most critics singled out Soha Ali Khan for below par performance. Saurabh Dwivedi writes for India Today, "Looking at her (Soha's) acting, you can't help but dream of Javed Jaaferi telling her 'You won't be able to pull this off'."

With such scathing reviews, should you watch this film? As Saurabh concludes his review, "Watch this movie only if for you anything passes in the name of 'comedy'. The film deserves the one star it got for the bravery the makers of this film showed while making it."
