All eyes are set on the maiden meeting of the newly constituted Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) scheduled for Monday, especially after several Congressmen, including senior members, have expressed their dissatisfaction over its formation.
Former chief ministers Capt Amarinder
Singh and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, senior leader Jagmeet Singh Brar and MLAs Jagmohan Singh Kang and Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa have openly criticised PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa for being "unfair" and "biased" in picking up the office-bearers and demanded that the high command should immediately step in.
Kang, who has been appointed general secretary, and former Moga DCC president Jagdarshan Kaur, who has been appointed secretary, have already expressed their inability to attend the meeting.
While Kang said he would not attend the meeting till the Congress high command intervened and rectified the list, Kaur cited an urgent work as the reason behind her not able to participate in the first meeting of the PPCC in Chandigarh. Two days ago, Kaur had openly criticised the list saying she was not accommodated in the body as per her seniority.
Rumours were also being spread by the anti-Bajwa groups in the party that since there was a lot of discontent in the party, the PPCC chief had decided to cut short the list of invitees and hence did not want general secretaries to attend the meeting.
However, Bajwa has made it clear that all vice-presidents (14), general secretaries (35), secretaries (61) and district Congress committee presidents (27) have been invited for the meeting. "We will call the meeting of the executive committee members -- 148 in number -- after about 15 days," said Bajwa.
Sources said the Amarinder loyalists were active in the state to ensure that those owing allegiance to him should openly come out against Bajwa and offer resignations in protest against the list.
Though Bajwa had convened the PPCC meeting, Amarinder said it should be called off till the list was rectified to the satisfaction of the disgruntled members.
