The public, however, supported the Congress protest, and even as they were stuck, some commuters said the demonstration should continue in state capital Chandigarh. Nearly 500 Congressmen rallied behind Pawan Dewan, former minister Rakesh Pandey, and party leader Amarjit Singh Tikka, demanding the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry against Majithia.
Ashu's group included Punjab Congress Beopar Cell co-chairman Jatinderpal Singh Bedi, councillor Sanjay Talwar, and party leaders Ishwarjot Cheema and Dhruv Aggarwal. Vikram Bajwa, son-in-law of former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, led his supporters to block the Jamalpur road from noon to 2pm, while Malkit Singh Dakha and other leaders, including Manjit Singh Hambran, Tanvir Singh Rania, and Paramjit SinghGhawaddi, demonstrated for two hours at Dehlon.
The Congressmen also block traffic on the Malerkotla road.
