Hours after reports emerged that terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) was planning to abduct Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister refused to accept any form of security cover and said the Delhi Police were playing politics along with the central government.
“Is delhi police n central
govt playing politics with my security? (sic)” Kejriwal tweeted. “Police officials met me in afternoon. Informed me abt threat. Asked me not to disclose it to media. Den dey themselves went and told media,” he sent out another tweet minutes later.
Earlier on Sunday, the Delhi Police said they had received inputs that the IM was planning to abduct Kejriwal for the release of its founding member Yaseen Bhatkal, who was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border on August 27 last year.
Kejriwal, who has remained silent on Twitter for quite some time and has only been promoting tweets by others, evidently chose the microblogging platform to attack the police and the Centre by instantly broadcasting his message to more than one million followers.Read: AAP forms panel to formulate economic agenda
He said the police had themselves compromised his security. “By announcing this, haven't police made me vulnerable. Now anyone can attack and it wud be said that Bhatkal's men did it.”
He repeatedly questioned the objective and intent of the police in making public the abduction threat issued by intelligence agencies. “Is delhi police so foolish or r they playing politics? At whose instance?”
Kejriwal, who had earlier turned down Z-category cover by the Ghaziabad Police, reiterated that he won’t accept any cover despite the IM threat. “I am not afraid of my life. As i said, i strongly believe in God. Will not take any security,” one of his tweets read.Read: Home ministry seeks report from Delhi Police
Denying the Z-cover security earlier, Kejriwal had said, “I don’t need security, the aam aadmi (common man) needs security”. He stressed his demand for security to the ‘aam aadmi’ again on Sunday. “I wud urge police to stop playing politics. Rather than giving security to me, let them deploy these men for aam aadmi's security,” he told his Twitter followers on Sunday.
The flurry of tweets from the Delhi CM did not stop at refusing security as he criticised the police for “laxity in duty”. “One Danish woman gangraped, shouldn't responsibility be fixed on some policeman for laxity in duty?”
He continued his onslaught over alleged negligence by the cops in complaints made by two Delhi ministers earlier.
Delhi law minister Bharti had on Wednesday alleged that a drug and prostitution ring was flourishing in south Delhi area of Khirki Extension after he attempted to carry out a raid in the locality. Another minister, Rakhi Birla, had complained to the police that a Delhi woman was being harassed by her in-laws and was later set afire.

“One woman burnt alive. Barring one, rest of guilty still at large. Local SHO refuses to arrest the rest. Shouldn't the SHO be punished?... Police refuse to act in a case of drug and sex racket.”
“Shouldn't police in all these 3 cases be held responsible? Hasn't police become a law unto itself?... I met Delhi Police commissioner, home minister and LG and demanded that the police officials shud be suspended or at least transferred,” Kejriwal told his followers who have grown at a steady pace since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader took oath as the Delhi CM on December 27 last year.
Kejriwal also refused to drop the idea of a stir despite prohibitory orders in the New Delhi district. The police on Sunday imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the district prohibiting unlawful assembly, a day before a protest by the AAP outside the home ministry demanding action against three police personnel for “negligence”.
“I along wid all ministers and MLAs, will sit on dharna outside home min office for the sake of women security… In view of republic day preps, i urge supporters and public not to come for dharna. Only MLAs will sit. No one else shud come pl,” his last tweet on Sunday evening read.
