Exactly a week after the conclusion of its flash sale, Gurgaon-based no-frills carrier SpiceJet surprised the market with yet another discounted fare offer on Friday, forcing other low-cost carriers IndiGo and GoAir to follow suit.

Airways, which offers meals to passengers free of cost, had also joined the fare war. National carrier Air India, too, is expected to join the bandwagon.
The airlines, however, did not specify how many seats were put up on sale.
Offering a "second chance" to those who had missed its sale offering last week, SpiceJet announced a 30% discount on tickets booked at least a month in advance for travel till April 15 this year. The tickets can be booked till Sunday.
There is, however, a catch.
The tickets on sale are "for travel on Mondays through Thursdays within the applicable period".
Within hours of the SpiceJet announcement, market leader IndiGo announced a 30% discount on tickets for travel on weekdays between March 3 and April 15, 2014. Soon, Jet Airways, JetKonnect and GoAir joined the sale but with no weekday restrictions.
"The discounts are extremely attractive. A Delhi-Mumbai ticket can be purchased for as little as Rs3,617," SpiceJet said in a statement. The airline said its January 21-23 sale was an "overwhelming success".
"These offers are a win-win for customers and for the airlines since it leads to significant demand stimulation during the lean season. Airlines get to reduce wastage of seats," said Rajji Rai, chairman, Swift Travel International Ltd.
"SpiceJet is also demonstrating that you do not need foreign airlines to show India the power of low fares and market stimulation" said Sanjiv Kapoor, chief operating officer, SpiceJet.
