The family alleged the boy went to school on Tuesday and was beaten up by his teacher Mohammad Arshad Hussain with a bamboo stick for his failing to answer a question.
The boy complained of a severe back pain the next day and remained in the bed until Saturday night. The pain became unbearable on Sunday and around 6am, he succumbed to his injuries.
The police have lodged an FIR against the teacher, who is absconding, after boy’s father Mahadeo Munda, 45, a farmer, approached them on Sunday.
The body has been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post mortem.
"We cannot take any action until the cause of death is known," sub-inspector of Chanho police station Munilal Baraik said.
Locals alleged that the teacher was hot tempered.
District superintendent of education Jayant Mishra has issued a suspension notice against the teacher.
"A new teacher will replace him in the school from Monday," Mishra said.
A departmental probe is likely after the post mortem report arrives on Monday.
