Three members of a family were shot dead by a group of bike-borne assailants in southeast Delhi’s Jaitpur area on Saturday night. Police said the killings may have been due to a longstanding dispute between two neighbours over parking and other issues. Three of the assailants were known to the deceased.

The victims were identified as Om Prakash Mishra, 50, his wife Shanti Devi, 46 and their son Amit Mishra alias Rinku, 24. Rinku’s older brother Sujit Mishra, his wife and three kids saved their lives by locking themselves inside the house. Rinku’s younger brother Ajit alias Pappu fled the area when the assailants opened fire.

They fired over twenty bullets at the family outside their house in Gali No-5, Om Nagar, Jaitpur, police said. The incident took place around 9.20 pm.

Eyewitnesses claimed the firing lasted for almost five minutes during which the attackers also fired several rounds in the air.

On Sunday, Delhi police arrested two of the assailants identified as Beer Singh, 40, and Sachin, 30.

Police said Singh was Mishra’s neighbour and the families had a longstanding dispute over parking their two-wheelers in the narrow lane. Hours before the firing, both the families had a tiff over the same issue.
