A 24-year-old married woman was gangraped in a moving car after being offered a lift in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. On Saturday night, the woman was on her way home to Satna town after visiting the renowned Maa Sharda temple at Maihar town, about 40km away. She was waiting for a bus at Maihar bus stand when four men travelling in a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) halted and approached her. The accused told her they were going to Satna too and offered her a lift, police said.

The woman accepted the lift but the accused drove towards Katni instead, and two men raped her in the moving car.

They stopped the car at Kusedi village and took her to a deserted field, where she was raped again. The accused left her in an unconscious state and fled.

After the victim regained consciousness, she reached a dhaba on Satna-Katni road (National Highway-7) and told the dhaba owner of the crime. The dhaba owner called the Maihar police.

A case has been registered and police have launched a manhunt for all four accused.
