The voice recorder purportedly contained “original” recordings of alleged conversations that occurred when the former army official visited Singh’s office and made the bribe offer, according to a CBI source.
The recorder has been sent for forensic examination by the agency. The CBI has also gathered records from the defence ministry and the army HQs.
When contacted by HT, Vishwajeet Singh, the former army chief’s lawyer, confirmed the handover of the recorder and personal diary to the CBI. He said, “The crucial evidence in the case are with the defence ministry but somehow the CBI’s probe is proceeding at a very slow pace.”
