After the recent revelation made by a woman commander about the Maoist design to target police stations in Jharkhand during the Lok Sabha poll, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also warned of the same.
The MHA has shot off a letter to the state police informing that extremists are
ready to disrupt the upcoming election in the state. HT has a copy of the letter.
The letter reads, “The Jharkhand Regional Committee (JRC) of the CPI(Maoist) has prepared a two-pronged strategy to disrupt the parliamentary election under its jurisdiction.”
The letter also mentions that security forces during recent operations conducted in Bihar’s Jamui district had recovered Maoist documents detailing the nefarious plan of the ultras to disrupt the poll process. According to the letter, the mission named Chunao Bahiskar plans to boycott campaigns by issuing press releases and putting up anti-election pamphlets, posters and banners at several places.
“It would also organise meetings, rallies, torchlight processions and programmes to spread the message of poll boycott, besides taking disciplinary action against its own cadres found to be indulging in electioneering…,” the letter read.
As part of its disruption strategy, the rebels are planning to attack security forces and political leaders. “It has directed its cadres to make all logistical arrangements, including collecting explosives for the proposed acts of violence,” the letter read.
The Maoists are also planning to ambush security forces, polling booths, police stations and polling parties in Ranchi, Sahebganj, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Godda, Jamtara, Deoghar, Chatra, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Pakur and Giridih.
The MHA directed the police to sensitise security forces to comply with security drill and standard operation procedure.
