Soft drink giant coke is set to break new ground -- in an interesting new advertisement,
and Deepika Padukone come together to play small-town characters.
, a college-going girl, misses her bus and fears she might have to 'peel peas' all her life if she does not appear in her examination.
She says, "
Bus miss ho gayi. Ab hum fail ho jayenge, papa humaari saadi kara denge aur hum saari life baith ke matar cheelenge
. (I missed the bus. Now I will fail in the exam and dad will marry me off. I will be stuck in the kitchen all my life peeling peas.)"
A 'lover boy' rickshaw puller (played by
) comes to her rescue, but in a very endearing way.
Interestingly Deepika and Farhan strike just the perfect chemistry, acing the act. Farhan pulls off a cool 'Bihari' look with elan, complete with his black shades and
The ad ends rather sweetly, with Farhan telling Deepika, "
Aapko kabhi matar nai cheelne denge
. (I will ensure you are never stuck in the kitchen peeling peas.)"
Unlike earlier ads, this one uses colloquial language, everyday setting and a backdrop that moves out of the hotels, drawings rooms and urbane college campuses, popular with cola ads, to the dusty Indian streets.
The man behind the ad, film director Anurag Kashyap says, "The idea was to see the India that has not been showcased till now and to go into the interiors." "The advertisement involves characters who are from the lower rung of the society," he adds.
