Addressing the protesters, PCM president Lal Chand alleged that officials and employees of the forest department on February 20 tried to demolish a church building and removed railings. He alleged that the forest department acted at the behest of forest minister Bhagat Chuni Lal. He demanded a public apology from the minister, failing which a case must be registered against him.
Lal Chand said that when authorities start construction of four-lining of the national highway, church would be removed to another place allotted by the government. Nakodar tehsildar Bhupinder Singh reached the spot and pacified activists who submitted a memorandum to him.
Slum dwellers have encroached upon government land and have constructed many religious places along the slums on the way to old Vein Bridge which is lying abandoned.
Other PCM leaders Doctor William and Tarsem Peter also spoke on the occasion.
