It’s quite a change of scenery for Sahara chief Subrata Roy.
Just a day ago he was receiving several guests and spending his time at a forest guesthouse in Kukrail, a picturesque picnic spot in Uttar Pradesh. But after an SC judge on Tuesday deemed him ‘medically fit enough to sleep on an
elevated, concrete bed’, Roy will be spending his time in Tihar’s ‘VIP’ Jail number 3 in west Delhi where he will be allowed two visitors a day.
Tihar Jail sources told HT that Roy will be in a cell close to the one where the prime accused in the December 16 gang rape, Ram Singh, had hung himself.
“He arrived at the Jail with around 50 to 60 people, apparently form the upper echelons of the Sahara Group in a cavalcade of SUVs around 8pm,” said a senior Tihar Jail official.

“Since he is above the age of 62, he is not required to sleep on the floor. But since this is his first time in Tihar Jail, he cannot be allowed a cot,” another official said.
Prison authorities have passed clear warnings to their officers that the slightest offering of any privileges would result in immediate suspension from duty. “Roy will be served normal prison food,” another official added.
It’s a far cry from his stay in Kukrail where Roy, under police custody, enjoyed all manner of facilities while staying in a suite of a two-floor forest guesthouse.

Only two cops were present on the first floor guarding the entrance while other cops were in the visitors’ room on the ground floor.

The police barred the public from entering the picnic area but his friends, relatives and well-wishers – arriving in high-end luxury vehicles -- were allowed to see him.
Even vehicles carrying Sahara Q-shop mineral water bottles and eatables were allowed in, though the police had said it was meant for the guesthouse staff.
