In a major security lapse, a Jet Airways passenger travelled from Delhi to Mumbai on a boarding card issued in someone else's name. The incident took place on March 4. According to Ravish Sahay, a Mumbai-based passenger, the airline staff at the check-in counter in Delhi was initially unable to track his booking details in the system. However, he was issued a boarding card after he provided the booking reference.

Subsequently he spent some time in the airline lounge and cleared security without any glitches.

However, at the boarding gate he realised that the boarding card was issued in the name of Rajib Saha. "When I realised the mistake I told the airline staff to issue a fresh boarding card. But he made some corrections on the faulty boarding card and cleared me to board the flight," said Sahay.

The staffer struck off seat number (24F) allotted to Sahay with a pen and issued him a fresh seat (20A).

A Jet Airways spokesperson was not available for a comment. Hindustan Times has sent a query to the airline by email. Independent security experts said that the lapse should be thoroughly probed.

"This is a serious procedural and security violation. Any passenger should have a valid boarding pass to clear security. According to the rules laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation ((DGCA) the only way to correct mistakes on boarding cards are by replacing them with new ones," said independent air safety expert Vipul Saxena.
