If things go according to plan, Ganganagar district will soon get another open jail. Open jails are minimum security prisons where inmates with good behaviour and those who satisfy certain norms prescribed in the prison rules are admitted. The proposed jail is likely to be opened in the district hospital so that inmates lodged cleaning and sanitizing works of the hospital could also be looked after.

The idea was suggested by Central Jail’s superintendant Nandsingh Shekhwat to divisional commissioner of Bikaner Subeer Kumar during his recent visit to the jail.

Kumar has directed Shekhawat to send a formal proposal for the same and assured that he would forward it to the state government.
