The chief minister is now the MLA from Jhalarapatan assembly constituency of Jhalawar, while Dushyant is the MP here since the last two Lok Sabha polls. None of the Congress candidates have succeeded in defeating Raje and her son, though they had seven occasions to do so.
The upcoming LS polls have also posed a stiff challenge before the Congress to field winning candidates against Raje’s son, Singh, who remains undefeated in Jhalawar.
Singh had defeated Urmila Jain, the wife of Congress’ tallest leader in Baran district Pramod Jain Bhaya, by margin of over 50,000 votes in last LS polls. The Congress has not seen an evolution of a big leader whose stature can match that of Raje.
The names of former minister and ex-Congress MLA from Baran Pramod Bhaya, Sanjay Gurjar and others are in the fray for getting a Congress ticket from Jhalawar constituency, but Raje’s return to power and the poor show by the Congress in the assembly polls have dampened Congress’ poll prospects.
The Congress has lost all eight assembly constituencies falling under the Jhalawar constituency, while the BJP won all such constituencies in the last assembly polls.
