The police are yet to establish the identity of the auto-rickshaw driver and his aide who was involved in the crime. They claim the complainant had not been able to identify the spot where she was sexually exploited and robbed. She has supposedly failed to identify the culprits when police questioned more than 100 auto-rickshaw drivers in her presence.
The German student has been staying in a rented accommodation in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash for the past four months. On March 8, she had gone to Barakhamba Road for some personal work.
“Around 10 pm, she boarded an auto-rickshaw near Max Muller Bhawan to reach her rented accommodation. After getting inside the three-wheeler, she switched on the GPS service in her mobile phone to keep a tab on the movement of the three-wheeler,” said a senior police officer.
On the way, the auto-rickshaw driver stopped on the pretext of finding some tools that were supposedly kept beneath the rear seat. The German woman alleged the driver then began touching her body parts indecently. She initially asked him to stop it but he continued molesting her. She got scared and eventually got out of the vehicle and screamed for help.
“In the meantime, another three-wheeler arrived there and its driver snatched her purse before disappearing. The German woman screamed for help and chased the vehicle for a little while. However, by the time she returned, the autorickshaw in which she was travelling was also gone,” the officer added.
The victim’s statement was recorded before a magistrate under section 164 CrPC. As why she took four days to lodge her complaint, the officer said she approached the police only after consulting her close friends and taking their advice.
