Vivek Oberoi to voice the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi may not have been able to get into the Spider-Man’s bright costume. He might not have been able to even find a foothold in the film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, itself. But he sure is going to voice the main villain Max Dillon or Electro, albeit in Hindi. His voice will probably get an extra fillip with Oberoi’s Hindi, laced with sinister villainy.
And playing an evil guy is not exactly new for Oberoi. In Krrish 3, he essayed a monstrous and handicapped rogue – who creates a hybrid of humans and animals with unimaginable physical strength, and helps spread a deadly virus in Africa.
Oberoi, who debuted with Ram Gopal Verma’s 2002 Company, has done a wide variety of roles. As a gangster in Shootout in Lokhandwala, as a South Indian politician in Rakht Charitra, as Kesu in Omkara (a trusted lieutenant of Othello, Michael Cassio, in this Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic tale of love and jealousy) and as a lover in Mani Ratnam’s Saathiya (from the Tamil original of Alaipayuthey), Oberoi was fascinating. But not lucky enough to reach the kind of heights he deserved.
Of course, apart from his movies and acting calibre, his other claim to fame was Aishwarya Rai. The relationship broke after a point.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in India on May 1, earlier than its North American release.
It is well known that the most important battle of the Spider-Man has been within himself. The responsibilities of the ordinary citizen, Peter Parker and the unusually difficult obligations as the Spider-Man (both portrayed by Andrew Garfield) have never been a cakewalk to carry on. Swinging from one New York skyscraper to another may look like a simple circus feat, but hidden beneath this antic is the onerous burden of saving his fellowmen from baddies like Electro (Jamie Foxx). And Spider-Man knows that only he can do this, and as he sometimes transforms into the everyday, boy next-door Parker to be with his girlfriend, Gwen (Emma Stone), the poignancy and the pain will only haunt him.
