With the beginning of election season, candidates and party leaders have started taking special care of their health amid hectic political schedules.
From hitting the gym to counting on a liquid diet, they are adopting various ways to keep themselves fit during the taxing poll
Health and fitness often take a backseat for politicos during strenuous campaigning days. However, there are some who are looking after their wellbeing amid back-to-back public meetings, political movements, press conferences, road shows and janta darbars.
Lok Sabha candidate from Tehri parliamentary constituency Anoop Nautiyal is drinking lots of water to fight the soaring temperatures and erratic schedules. Making a political debut with an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket, Nautiyal has been maintaining a “balanced lifestyle”.
“I have exercised all my life and followed a middle path when it comes to adopting a healthy lifestyle. While continuing that regime, I am also make sure to drink lots of water amid the hectic schedules to keep myself hydrated and healthy,” Nautiyal said.
For state Congress vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana, the trick lies in going to the gym early in the morning before beginning his day full of political activities.
A gym enthusiast, he spends around an hour doing various exercises. “I am going to the gym every day without fail. I start my workout at 6am, sweating it out for at least an hour,” Dhasmana told Hindustan Times.
After finishing the workout, the Congress leader reaches his Karanpur residence to get ready for the day ahead. His breakfast choice of wholesome diet including fruits, among other essentials, also tells a lot about his healthy regimen.
“A politician’s life is always hectic. But, around the election time, our days turn even more frenzied. So, I am counting on a light diet with seasonal fruits finding a place on the top of my menu,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harbans Kapoor’s funda to keep in top form is to go for a morning walk religiously.
“Election time brings along a lot of fatigue which every politician needs to get accustomed to. As for me, I am relying on my tried-and-tested formula of going for morning walks. It not only helps me unwind completely, but also helps in studying the people’s woes and connecting with them face-to-face,” he said.
