Darshani is a student of St Mary Play School in Ranchi. She has 835.880 gm gold worth `26,54,684 and 7.2 gm diamond worth `2,68,800. Together it amounts to one fourth of her father and mother’s individual assets. Her father has assets worth `1.07 crore and mother `1.06 crore.
“There is nothing immoral or illegal in preserving ornaments for a daughter,” Geeta Koda said.
She added, “The income tax department had seized my daughter’s ornaments in 2009 after my husband was charged in money laundering cases. Darshani is just a minor and her assets should not be made a political issue for cheap popularity.” However, some do try to seek a political mileage out of it.
Jharkhand Dishom Party (JDP) candidate Salkhan Murmu said, “More than 70% tribal children of remote villages in Singhbhum are suffering from malnutrition. Minor daughters of the constituency are becoming victims of human trafficking. Around 100 such cases are pending in Singhbhum. How would Geeta Koda feel the hunger of Singhbhum children when her daughter owns jewellery of such amount.”
On moral ground Geeta Koda and her husband should stop contesting election from Singhbhum, he said.
The former chief minister is facing money-laundering cases worth `4,000 crore.
Voters should stop voting for the Koda couple, as they have done nothing for the tribal population, especially children, alleged Murmu.
