“Due to technical upgradation at the Central Police Control Room (PCR), the response time from the number may face a three-to-four minute delay as information about the complaint would be relayed manually,” said a police official.
The police said ‘100’ would switch to manual mode from ten pm on Thursday to ten pm on Saturday. An official from the communication unit said that a call to ‘100’ usually meant the recording of information given by a caller by a computer before forwarding the call to a sister department which is supposed to take action on it within a minute. “But, for two days, the information will be noted down on a paper and it will take three to four minutes to forward the matter to the next department,” the officer added. The CPCR, after a similar upgradation last year, was equipped with 100 incoming lines in addition to 30 enquiry call positions and 13 women help lines. During 2013, the PCR had received 85,84,101 calls or an average of over 23,500 calls per day.
