However, the dish might not be served for long. The election flavour in the dish has come under the radar of the Election Commission.
Poll department sources said that an advertisement of the Narendra-Modi inspired dish — Modi chicken — was published in a local newspaper recently. The ad, published by a restaurant near the Central Bus Stand, read that those who vow to vote for the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate would get the dish for a subsided rate.
As per sources, the model code of conduct cell of the Election Commission considers the ad as an attempt to influence voters. Soon after the advertisement came to the notice of authorities, assistant returning officer of Ganganagar Kailash Chandra Sharma asked the concerned sector officer to file a report about the same.
The owner of the restaurant, who also runs a Hindi daily, Ashok Chugh, said that he was a Modi fan and thought it would make good business sense to use his name to sell the chicken dish. "I used to read reports about Modi tea, Modi sarees and Modi cycles. So, I thought I would name the chicken after the Gujarat chief minister. He is a good man and has swept the country under the Modi wave. This is my way of supporting Modi," Chugh said.
But after the poll department's intervention, Chugh has removed the advertisement.
In another case, the EC has added a huge amount of money to the election expenditure of the Zamindara Party, as they recently distributed calendars in the parliamentary constituencies where their candidates are contesting from. It also asked the code of conduct cell to take action against the party for non-printing of names of printers and publisher on these calendars.
