Cannes Fest poster celebrates Fellini and Mastroianni
This year’s poster of the 67th Cannes Film Festival is a snapshot from the legendary Italian director, Federico Fellini’s 81/2.
The movie, part of the 1963 Festival, stars the dashing Italian actor, Marcello Mastroianni, and traces the experiences of a helmer suffering from a “director’s block”. Autobiographical in many ways, 81/2 moves between fantasy and reality in wonderful harmony.
Designed by Herve Chigioni and Gilles Frappier, the poster – like many in the past – celebrates cinema. The festival said: “In Marcello Mastroianni and Federico Fellini, we celebrate a cinema that is free and open to the world, acknowledging once again the artistic importance of Italian and European cinema through its most stellar figures”.
Frappier felt that “the way he (Mastroianni) looks at us above his black glasses draws us right in to a promise of global cinematographic happiness…the happiness of experiencing the Festival de Cannes together.”
The actor’s daughter and renowned actress herself, Chiara Mastroianni, said: “I am very proud and touched that Cannes has chosen to pay tribute to my father with this poster. I find it very beautiful and modern, with a sweet irony and a classy sense of detachment. It’s really him through and through!” The festival runs from May 14 to 26.
